EVERY CITY NEEDS A MARKET

It's true--every city needs a market.  All over the country, the most vibrant and dynamic cities all have one thing in common.  They all boast a thriving Public Market.  Nothing more than a permanent market structure in a prominent spot.  It is a simple place for farmers and craftspeople alike to trade their goods.  An ever-changing and lively hub of activity that evokes a true sense of place.

Downtown Wilmington is the most obvious choice for such an idea.  In fact over a hundred years ago, Wilmington had a flourishing commercial downtown with an enviable market house.  An active daily market, which employs the most basic form of retail, might just be the boost that downtown needs.  It would help create a well rounded mix and stimulate other businesses as a result.

A market that is open everyday and even at night would attract more locals and encourage strollers to linger.
